Zhejiang Medical College is a full-time ordinary institute of higher learning officially accredited by the State Ministry of Education. The school is funded by Zhejiang Provincial Government and supervised by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education and the Provincial Department of Public Health, aiming at fostering practical talents in the field of medicine.
The college, formerly known as the Provincial Women's Obstetric School, was founded in 1925. Then it was successively renamed as Zhejiang Hangzhou Health School, Hangzhou Medical College, and Hangzhou Health School. Zhejiang Health School was reestablished in 1975 and further developed to Zhejiang Vocational-technical Institute of Medicine (preparatory period) in 1999. In 2004, Zhejiang Medical College was officially established under the approval of the Ministry of Education. The college follows the instruction of the scientific concept of development; actively adjusts itself to the strategic requirements of Strong Education Province and Strong Health Province; carries forward the spirit of “truth-seeking & universal fraternity”; Cultivates grass-roots-oriented vocational and technical talents of medicine; strives to form a professional medical talents cultivation system which is characterized in harmonious developments of multi major and balanced relationship between medical education and vocational-technical education. Our college aims at becoming a distinct and influential medical college in China which constantly makes progress in teaching, research and social services.
Zhejiang Medical College is located in No.481, Binwen Road, Binjiang Higher Education Park, Hangzhou, occupying an area of 217arces with 110,000 square meters of education building space. At present, the amount of students on campus is up to more than 5000. The college is equipped with the best facilities for teaching, research, experiments, book collection, administration, sports and campus network. The college library has a collection of more than 500,000 volumes. We provide eleven specialties, namely, Clinical Medicine, Oral Prosthetics, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Inspection Technology, Medical Imaging Technology, Health Inspection and Quarantine Technology, Information Control of Medicine and Pharmacy, Health Supervision, Public Health Management and Rehabilitation Technology, among which Medical Imaging Technology is a key specialty of higher learning of Zhejiang Province.
The college has a strong faculty. 49% of the teachers have senior academic titles of professional rank, and more than 46% of the staff has a master’s or doctorial degree. There are also experts who take the special allowance of the State Council, young or middle-aged experts who made outstanding contributions to Zhejiang Province, the provincial “151” talents, master hands of higher learning, the provincial high-level innovative talents of Health, the specialty leaders of higher learning, etc. Meanwhile, the college has invited and employed a lot of renowned experts from colleges or universities, medical and health units and disease control institutions as visiting professors, part-time teachers and members of the Steering Committees.
The college has set up 12 on-campus training bases for specialties such as Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Inspection, Information Control of Medicine and Pharmacy, Medical Imaging Technology and Oral Prosthetics. Besides, in order to strengthen the medical teaching and practice, the college has established “3A” hospitals as its affiliated hospitals. In addition, the college owes another 6 non-direct affiliated hospitals throughout the province, 62 teaching hospitals and 44 teaching bases.
Relying on Zhejiang Medical College, Zhejiang Provincial Department of Public Health has established the Rural Health Research Center of Zhejiang Province, so as to carry out the research on the provincial rural health service system and medical security system, and then work through the technical analysis and evaluation of the results, guides the reform of the school’s talents cultivation mode. Aiming at improving the level of vocational skills of students, and with the support of the Occupational Skill Testing Center of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Information Industry, etc, the college carries out five major categories and 8 levels of the vocational training, undertakes Professional Nursing Skills Competition of Zhejiang Province. In the recent few years, the graduates of Zhejiang Medical College have been welcomed greatly by the employing units and the rate of employment has reached to above 97%.
The college also attaches great importance to the cooperation and communication with related colleges and universities abroad. For instance, it has established friendly relation and cooperation with the University of Indianapolis of America and Our Lady of Fatima University of Philippines, so as to better communicate in various aspects like research, culture and teaching.
Zhejiang Medical College has won a second prize of National Higher Education Achievement Award, a first prize of Provincial Higher Education Achievement Award, three prizes for Zhejiang Science and Technology Progress Award, and eight bureau-level prizes in the filed of technology. The college has a National Excellent Course “Pharmocology” and five Provincial Excellent Courses. It undertakes 14 scientific research projects of provincial and ministerial level.
In the recent few years, Zhejiang Medical College has obtained various honorary titles, such as National “Family of Exemplary Employees”, Zhejiang Provincial “Model Establishment”, Zhejiang Provincial “Safe Campus” and Zhejiang Provincial “Advanced School in Management According to the Law”.
